Welcome

At one time or another, it is not uncommon to feel stuck in our relationships and careers, overwhelmed by difficult emotions, or plagued by the sense that something is missing from our lives.

You may be painfully aware of self-defeating beliefs and behaviors that seem to stifle your creativity, confidence and ambition. Or you may be at a crossroads, unsure about what you really want.  Perhaps you have mixed feelings about certain aspects of yourself.  Often, these issues show up in our relationships, with family, friends and intimate partners, where we may wish for more authenticity or fulfillment.  At such times it can be difficult to know where to turn, whom to trust, and how best to work on restoring a sense of wholeness.

I offer a compassionate and supportive environment in which both individuals and couples are able to explore core emotional issues, relationship dynamics, behavioral patterns and attachment styles.  The following are some of the issues that clients present, and that I enjoy working with:

  • Anxiety / stress
  • Depression / sadness
  • A wish to build more confidence and self-esteem
  • Loss / Grief
  • Loneliness / a wish for more satisfying social connections
  • Compulsivity / addictions
  • Career impasse / blocks at work
  • Relationship issues, whether in casual dating or with committed partners
  • A wish to improve conflict resolution skills whether at work or in intimate relationships
  • Difficulty sustaining trusting relationships
  • LGBT concerns / sexual orienation isssues
  • Male sexuality / shame-based issues
  • A desire to work on healing from a history of childhood neglect / trauma

My clients often utilize their sessions to help improve communication in their intimate and professional relationships, or to increase awareness into how their past experience may be influencing their consciousness and outlook in the present.  For some, therapy provides a unique and transformative experience of personal connection and relatedness, and an expanded range of choices for the future.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT # 50206) with more than fifteen years of experience working closely with individuals and couples in a vareity of settings and a broad professional background that informs my approach to therapy.  My practice is located in Hayes Valley, at 459 Fulton Street (cross-street is Gough).

My fee is $100 per session.  Other arrangements may be possible, depending on your financial situation and on my availability.  In some cases, my services are reimbursable by PPO insurance plans.  I typically offer both daytime and evening appointments.  If I cannot be of assistance, or if you are seeking a therapist who has a different fee structure, I maintain a list of excellent resources and would be happy to help you find someone that can meet your needs.

I look forward to exploring whether it might be productive for us to work together.
